1. With Christmas coming up, I asked my grandparents on my dads side if we could change things up a bit. You know the stereotypical old person gifts that you get at Christmas from your grandparents? The tacky sweaters with pom-poms knit on them? or the sizes that NEVER fit when its something Decent? That's actually how my grandparents at my dads house do Christmas. Since i have 23 first cousins at my dads you can imagine how much time and effort my grandmother puts into buying us all the perfect sweater every year, along with a book, which every year we all have gotten really really good and pretending that we love florescent beige sparkly turtlnecks and "Anne of green gables" novels.
However Every year my grandmother buys us all this and the amount of money she was spending on us was actually incredibly large and no one really enjoyed it. So this year i asked my dad if we could do something different. After He told my aunts and all my cousins agreed that they wouldn't be completely heartbroken if we didn't get out annual sweater and novel if we could all put it towards a good cause. We decided to all pool our gift money and buy chickens and goats and school supplies for an orphanage in Africa.
2. I decided to do this because this past summer i had the experience of a life time to visit a Peruvian orphanage and play with the kids for the afternoon. I made several friends at the all girl orphanage and was really effected by them. When I heard they were only able to stay there until they were 15 and that most of them had parents that just couldn't afford to keep them but may be able to get them when they reached this age but usually don't I was really heartbroken. Ever since i came home from Peru I have wanted to help out some how with kids that are not as fortunate as me and i just thought this would be an amazing way to do it.
3. I started doing this a couple of months ago but i felt it would be good for the assignment. Everyone can do it if they wanted and it doesn't have to Christmas to do it! there are so many links to similar sites on the web. Make sure however it is a legit site because sometimes 100% of the money doesn't always go towards the cause.
4. I know this Idea is not original but for me its new. I always have heard of people sponsoring kids and stuff but you can hear a lot about something and never take it in I realized. To get going on this project I'm really fortunate to have the support of my family that will all give towards it
